2015/50th
Roadster Roundup, Pismo Beach This was the big one, and San Jose Roadsters took
us back to Pismo Beach, the site of the very first RR, 50 years ago
and believe it or not, there were two members there that have
attending all fifty RRs. President
Tom brought fifteen members of the
California Roadsters to the
50th RR, who didn’t need an excuse to cruise back to the
Central Coast. Members
included: Tom, Max, Mark, Phill, Keith, Bernie and his friend Jack
Linden from Prescott, AZ (who has since out an application as an
associate member), Jerry and Judy, Chuck and Penny, Dick and Barbara,
Jon and Midge, Gary and Lisa, Chet and Ruby, Paul and Marilyn, Dennis
and Janice, Duane and Suzanne and applicant Chris and
Marsha.
On Thursday morning, we did our standard two prong assault on
the Central CoastOn Thursday morning, we did our standard two prong assault on
the Central Coast, with Tom leading Mark, with the southern group
leaving from Starbucks, Costa Mesa and the northern group leaving from
Coco's, Brea. We decided
to leave a little later (10 AM) than prior years to try and avoid the
traffic jam on the South Bay curve, but it didn't work. The larger
northern group went straight to
Prado Burger for lunch, while the southern group pulled in a little
later due to traffic and some taking the more direct 101 Freeway,
while the majority opped for the more scenic Highway 1.
After lunch, we gassed up and
headed to the host hotel in Pismo Beach.
Friday morning we planned a club cruise to the
Hearst Castle, with Dennis
setting up a behind the scenes, extended tour, including being able to
drive our roadsters to a reserved parking area behind the castle. The
tour last all of three hours seeing the castle from its basement to
top of the twin towers, and our docent tour guide was the best.
After the tour, we headed to Cambria for lunch at
the Indigo Moon Cafe on Main
Street, and most checked out the shopping after and/or headed back to
the hotel, with check-in for the RR, and get ready for nice buffet
dinner on the grassy bluff overlooking the Pacific, with the added
bonus of a little whale watching.
The Saturday morning's run through the rolling hillside
north of Pismo, ended up at the La Vino Rose
Winery for a nice buffet lunch. This is a huge facility, with
intregrated open air concert area used on weekends.
It is located along Highway 46, Paso Robles, adjacent to the
Robert Hall Winery, visited on a prior year's run.
The
San Jose Boys
really put a lot of effort into planning and execution of a memorable
RR, including a very nice, banquet dinner on Saturday night with a
couple bottles of wine on each table and a band for dancing.
Joe Cordosa and another gentlemen, whose name I didn't get, but
went to high school back in the dark ages with Joe, were honored as
being the only two guys in attendance that have
attended all 50 RR's.
Next year will be
Valley Roadster's turn to host
the 51st RR and they always do a bang up job, well except
for Clovis, so put the second weekend of September, 2016 on your
calendar now. This is the
one roadster event annually that we always should attend as a club and
show our appreciation to BAR for the invitation.
